__Sunday 3-6-2011__ Cut down on fat. Couple days ago, while taking lunch at Carl's Jr., I was asked by JM why I don't look fat after eating fatty burgers everyday. I told her and GR that I don't drink soda for the last couple years, instead I drink hot or iced tea. I stopped drinking soda not because of the fat issue (not fat tissue!), but rather the possibility of higher risk in getting diabetes. I hate needles, I hate illnesses, so the best thing I can do is to do the prevention.

The sweetness of soda is made from quite much of sugar mixed in with water. I have tested to see how much sugar I needed to add into a glass of water to make water sweet like soda; I was shocked to see the results in that experiment. As a youth, a person might need more sugar to compensate for the quick loss of energy during an active life. From the age of 40 and above, too much sugar in the body can bog a human body down, somehow I've felt that way.

Coincidentally, cutting down on sugar to prevent diabetes can also prevent unneccessay extra fat which usually contributes to more complicated medical situations, such as cholesterol clog-up, or heart attack. I am not a doctor, but by following common sense and general knowledge that I could learn, I think I can stay away from many medical troubles. And, by not involving in those unneccessary troubles, I can save a lot of energy, money, and time to do what I really want to do in life.

__ Friday 3-4-2011__ Truly, the gas prices really give me some headache. And today I received an email to suggest that we all consumers can do something to control this inflation situation. I'll let you reader be the judge. Here's the email:

Let's see if this works

This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.

Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!!

I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down?

We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas .

It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can Really work. Please read on and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $3.08 at Arco and Costco for regular unleaded in Salem , Oregon and climbing every week.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.

The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas.

But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers . If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all!

(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am, so trust me on this one.

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $2.00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

(Truthfully, I don't think it will work, since the message could be interpreted as a campaign from rival businesses. But the idea is quite impressive. As I said, I'll let you be the judge. )

Sat. 2-26-2011__ Thank you RS, JZ, and BW for helping me to get my car started to get home.
Right after work, my car had a problem with starting. With a jump from one vehicle, I could make it started.

Failed Battery !!

Seeing my vehicle's hood up, RS asked about the situation. I told him it was the failed battery in my car. Was so sure about it, I shut off and started the engine again. And, it was impossible to get it started. JZ and BW came over to see the situation. Four of us tried and were not very sure what was the problem.

The battery had been in use for more than 2 years which should have been replaced by now, especially its enemy, the weather, has been quite cold last couple days.

Battery with more than 2 years in service

Four of us finally came to the last resort: Pushing it since the car is stickshift. It was a perfect kick off. This is one of the best things I like about manual transmission car: If you can't start with a battery, you push it (!!!) [manual = do with hand].

Afterward, I took JZ's advice to go to an auto parts store nearby to get a new battery and get the alternator tested also. RS volunteered to go with me.

With a new battery, the car still could not start (!!!). So much for speculation about the bad battery. One of the store clerks tried to help with the fuel system which he suspected to be the problem. We eventually used the Pushing Method in a much smaller parking lot than the one at the workplace. Failed (!!!!).

RS and I had one more option: Call a tow truck from my insurance company which agreed to pay up to the maximum of $75 (!!!). It was almost forever to wait for a tow truck. RS went to a store to get a drink. I myself then tested the car again by turning the ignition switch [with a hope that magic is a real existence].

Strange enough, the engine started so smoothly !!!! Why it didn't do that before I called a tow truck? Yes, too many questions have gone unanswered!! Well, I then cancelled the tow truck. RS was very kind to followed my car all the way home to make sure the car would not stay overnight on the freeway.

Once again, thank you, JZ, BW, and especially RS, for helping me to get my car home. May all the best blessings be with you guys.

This Saturday 2-26-2011, we have to start at 8AM.
I'm sure some of us don't like this. Starting at 8 AM

Here comes the sun. It's all right!
